Saudi Arabia - AlUla

Film production in AlUla

Sandstone canyons, Hegra and desert plateau - with its own permitting regime.

Film crew shooting on a desert location in Saudi Arabia at first light

AlUla is one of the most photographed new production locations in the world and one of the most protected. Access to heritage sites is controlled by the Royal Commission for AlUla and requires its own approvals alongside national permits.

Access and permits in AlUla

Heritage sites including Hegra require Royal Commission approval, with conditions on crew numbers, vehicle access and equipment. Non-heritage desert and canyon locations are more flexible and still visually extraordinary.

Logistics and accommodation

Crew accommodation is limited and books out around cultural seasons. Most equipment travels from Riyadh or Jeddah, so build transit days into the schedule.
