Key facts

Rate benchmark
Comparable with the Gulf average, above European service markets
Biggest variables
Remote logistics, travel and accommodation, permit lead time
Rebate
Cash rebate on qualifying local spend, pre-approval required

What sets the baseline

Crew and equipment rates in Riyadh and Jeddah sit broadly at the Gulf average - higher than Spain or South Africa, lower than premium US markets once travel is counted. Local infrastructure has improved enough that most departments no longer need to travel.

Where budgets get underestimated

Three areas account for most overruns.

  • Remote location logistics: transit days, fuel, water, welfare and support vehicles
  • Accommodation in regions like AlUla, which is limited and seasonal
  • Permit-driven schedule risk when applications go in late

Reducing cost without reducing ambition

Scheduling within a single region, consolidating equipment moves and locking locations early are the levers with the biggest effect. The rebate on qualifying local spend can be significant, but only when the application is filed before production starts.

Frequently asked questions

Is Saudi Arabia expensive to film in?
Rates are moderate for the region, but remote logistics, travel and accommodation drive the budget more than day rates. Early scheduling and consolidated moves make the largest difference.
